Auckland Airport chief executive of Adrian Littlewood has apologised to passengers for the disruption caused by emergency runway closures in January and February. The runway closures caused disruption to flights, and prompted Transport Minister Phil Twyford to call the airport's management to brief him. STUFF Auckland Airport's runway has been closed for unscheduled maintenance twice this year. "Auckland Airport has been consulting with aviation authorities and independent experts on planned runway works," Littlewood said. SUPPLIED Auckland Airport has plans for a second runway but it is a long way off, and unscheduled maintenance on the existing runway has caused flights to be diverted.
