An attorney for Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout today said that he "is 'confident' the proposed prisoner swap of his client for Americans Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan is going to happen." Appearing on CNN's "New Day," attorney Steve Zissou said, "I do have some information about the progress of how things are going ... I'm confident this is going to get done." The U.S. has offered Bout as part of a "potential deal to secure the release" of both Whelan and the WNBA Phoenix Mercury star. But sources said that Russian officials "have requested" that Vadim Krasikov, who is imprisoned in Germany, be included in the swap (CNN.com, 8/1).
