Attacked journalists should access our free legal services – MRA


AN advocacy group, the Media Rights Agenda, said on Tuesday that it was collating names of journalists in Nigeria whose rights had been threatened or violated with a view to assisting them to seek justice. The Director of Project for the organisation, Mr. Segun Fatuase, who disclosed this during the group’s visit to the headquarters of Punch Nigeria Limited along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, said the MRA would provide pro bono legal services and litigation support to such journalists. We are collating attacks on the Media from 1986 basically, the death of Dele Giwa up until when Obasanjo took over in 1999. And from 1999 up until now, we’ve another 17 documented deaths of journalists, which become worrisome.”The Head, Legal Department of MRA, Ms Chioma Nwaodike, added, “Already, we have like 70 lawyers in our network.
