At least 17 people were reported dead in the capital, Kinshasa. Opposition leaders claimed security forces had shot at least four people dead, while witnesses said protesters had beaten at least one police officer to death. Opponents say Kabila, whose second term in power expires in December, is seeking to cling to power undemocratically.
