At UN General Assembly, Erdogan will take Kashmir, but will make it India-Pakistan issue

New Delhi: Continuing tradition, Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan again addressed Kashmir in his address to the United Nations General Assembly, but this time it was intended to be the India-Pakistan issue. Addressing the General Assembly Hall, he said, “I regret that 75 years after the independence of India and Pakistan, strong peace and cooperation have not yet been established. Since 2019, Erdogan has regularly raked Kashmir out of the UNGA, drawing praise from his close ally Islamabad. In the aftermath of the comments, India stepped up its engagement with Turkiye’s neighbors Greece and Cyprus, both of which have less friendly ties with Ankara on several issues. The final round of Ministry of Foreign Affairs consultations was held in New Delhi in May 2019.
