At Competitive Stuyvesant, Alumni Are Waging a Bitter Contest


This is not the first case of discord among Stuyvesant alumni groups. The Stuyvesant High School Alumni Association, which was started in the late 1980s, traditionally focused on raising money to help support extracurricular programs at the school and for scholarships for graduating students. Mr. Kim said in an interview and subsequent email messages that the election procedures were standard for nonprofit organizations. Friends of Stuyvesant quickly dissolved, as agreed, and turned over $600,000 in assets to the alumni association to form the seed of an endowment, Mr. Kim said. To him, the biggest problem was how little money the association had raised from Stuyvesant alumni.
