But under the surface of this brilliance and glitter of this golden generation that would lay the foundations of independent India, a poison was brewing. Nineteen forty-seven was both Partition and freedom; self-determination and slaughter. We tried to let the legacy of freedom define India more than the obsession with Partition. The logic of Partition and the logic of freedom are fundamentally incompatible. Which logic will we embrace — freedom or Partition?
