U.S. astronaut Eugene Cernan, the commander of the final Apollo lunar landing mission in 1972, “the last man to walk on the moon,” died at the age of 82 on Jan. 16, 2017. Gene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon, passed away today. “Too many years have passed for me to still be the last man to have left his footprints on the Moon,” he wrote.
