A coronavirus vaccine now being trialled in the UK could prevent 70.4 percent of people from being infected with the potential deadly disease that first emerged in Wuhan nearly a year ago. British pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca said today an interim analysis of clinical trials showed its coronavirus vaccine has an average efficacy of 70 percent in protecting against the virus, CNBC reports. It is hoped a coronavirus vaccine could help to bring an end to the coronavirus pandemic that has claimed more than 1.3 million lives worldwide. “This vaccine’s efficacy and safety confirm that it will be highly effective against coronavirus and will have an immediate impact on this public health emergency,” Soriot said. “These findings show that we have an effective vaccine that will save many lives,” Professor Andrew Pollard, chief investigator of the Oxford Vaccine Trial, said in a statement.
