Guwahati, June 14: The Assam government will soon install Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) machines in all the medical colleges of the state for early detection of HIV virus. The NAAT is a molecule-based test that can detect the HIV virus in the blood within three days of a person being infected. "All medical colleges in the state will soon get the NAAT machines that will help in fast detection of the presence of HIV virus in a person's body. Health officials said this on the sidelines of a function organised by the Assam State AIDS Control Society and the Assam State Blood Transfusion Council to celebrate World Blood Donors' Day here today. Window period is the time from infection with HIV until the body produces evidence of the virus itself or antibodies that can be detected by tests.
