A panel of experts from the World Health Organisation (WHO) reviewed the possible cancer risk of aspartame and found that it may cause cancer, but can safely be consumed in limited qualities. In a report released late on Thursday (July 13), the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) confirmed that aspartame was "possibly carcinogenic to humans". Aspartame is a common ingredient found in most diet fizzy drinks, ice cream and chewing gums that are 'sugar-free'.
