Q. I am travelling to Taiwan for business and plan to stay an extra few days to explore. Over the centuries many diverse cultures have inhabited Taiwan, including the Dutch, Spanish, Japanese and Han Chinese, so it's an incredibly interesting place. If you're a fan of Hayao Miyazaki anime, the Taiwanese town of Jiufen (45 minutes by car from Taipei) inspired the labyrinth town in Miyazaki's cult-movie Spirited Away. There's also Rainbow Village, a former military village built hastily decades ago. It's free to visit and Taiwan High Speed Rail runs a direct train from Taipei to Rainbow Village, departing every 30 minutes and taking just over one hour.
