I have been approached by a renewable energy company that is interested in installing a solar project on approximately 15 acres at the edge of the farm. They are proposing a long-term lease and say the land is ideal due to its proximity to a substation. Access rights are especially important on farms. Lease income is treated differently to farming income, and this can affect income tax planning and reliefs associated with the transfer of agricultural land.
