The country’s shambling social care system is also under scrutiny, despite Johnson’s pledge in July to publish a “clear plan” of action. In response, the Prime Minister vowed a criminal justice overhaul, though the family of Jack Merritt—one of those murdered—dismissed the calls as “draconian” knee-jerk policy-making. Downing Street have rebuffed her before, and they’ll continue to do so—but the Prime Minister must soon address the issue head-on.
