Asian Hornet spotted in UK for first time this year - what to do if you see one

Now, there’s another insect to look out for this summer, in the form of the Asian Hornet. The National Bee Unit has confirmed an Asian Hornet sighting in the Gosport area of Hampshire, marking the first sighting since October 2019. “While the Asian hornet poses no greater risk to human health than other wasps or hornets, we recognise the damage they can cause to honey bee colonies and other beneficial insects." If you suspect you have seen an Asian hornet, report this using the iPhone and Android app ‘Asian Hornet Watch’ or by using Defra’s online report form here. Ms Spence added: “Please continue to look out for any Asian hornets and if you think you’ve spotted one, report your sighting through the Asian hornet app or online.”
