KEEPING SCORE: Japan's Nikkei 225 edged 0.2 percent lower to 16,879.21 after the government reported lower-than-expected economic data. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose 0.8 percent to 22,945.94 and Australia's S&P ASX 200 added 0.2 percent to 5,543.70.
