The incident occurred on January 23, 2026, after police officers retrieved a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy. Police said that while the patrol team was returning from the operation, they were confronted by a crowd of about 100 individuals who blocked the road. The group, some of whom were reportedly armed with cutlasses and firearms, attacked the officers and forcibly seized a service rifle. The Ashanti Regional Police Command has condemned the attack and reiterated its warning to the public against acts of violence toward law enforcement officers.
