Asda is launching a controversial new aisle in 359 of its supermarkets

Starting from 21 September, the new plant-based aisle is aimed at making Asda a destination store for the country's vegans. Asda buying manager Sarah Thornewill said:“We understand that customers want a quick and simple shopping experience, and this shouldn’t be restricted by dietary requirements. Asda isn't the only major supermarket eyeing up vegans either. This morning Tesco announced it plans to boost sales of meat alternatives by 300% within five years. But rather than a dedicated aisle, Tesco plans to put plant-based alternatives on shelves next to their meaty counterparts.
