In the third week of the mass Canadian shut down, pandemic life felt balanced every hour between a new normal and catastrophe. For them, it felt like being on a beach after an earthquake, before the tsunami comes in. The difference being that, in a tsunami, your own behaviour has no impact on the size of the wave. Each person stood alone on a yellow line painted in six-foot intervals on the red brick. The man behind me kept edging forward, drifting off his yellow line.
