As states ease curbs including people, including making masks optional, amid a sustained decline in the Covid-19 cases across the country, healthcare experts are of the opinion that it may be too early to completely do away with restrictions. Before that, the violation of wearing masks attracted a fine of ₹2,000 in Delhi which was reduced to ₹500. Another important consideration here is that though Covid-19 has probably weakened, the country saw a reduction in the number of swine flu cases due to masks and sanitation practices. "Masking is the second-most effective intervention after vaccination when it comes to preventing new COVID infection. "I urge people to consider masking up on a voluntary basis when out and about to help the country fight Covid infection effectively,” he added.
