As rotavirus worries spread in Sabah, state health department investigates - Nation

KOTA KINABALU: There is a fear that there has been an outbreak of the highly contagious rotavirus which causes diarrhoea and vomiting in infants and children, and the Sabah Health Department is investigating the matter. The viral message, which warned parents of the rotavirus outbreak, was supposedly sent by a parent after visiting a private medical centre here. The source said the way to prevent infants and children from getting infected was to ensure thorough hygiene at all times. The rotavirus, which infects the stomach and intestines, usually attacks infants and children, especially those aged five and below. The symptoms are diarrhoea, vomiting, fever and abdominal pain.
