Like many of you, I had a disturbing realization while reading Sunday’s New York Times story about friendship, and specifically the revelation that nearly half of our perceived friendships are not reciprocated. “My god,” I thought to myself, “that must mean there are dozens if not hundreds of people out there who think I am their friend.”In the interest of living honestly, and not being asked to help move or take care of pets, I thought it best to clarify a few things with a few of you who are labouring under the misapprehension that I am in any way invested in your emotional or spiritual well-being.
