Oakland Athletics third base coach Matt Williams is going on an extended road trip, having agreed to a manage the Kia Tigers of the KBO League in South Korea. MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reported Monday night that Williams received a three-year contract, and Williams confirmed via text message to NBC Sports Bay Area that he took the job. Williams, 53, has been Bob Melvin’s third base coach in Oakland for two seasons. Williams managed the Washington Nationals for two seasons, finishing with a combined 179-145 regular-season record in 2014 and 2015. He played for the San Francisco Giants (1987-96), the Cleveland Indians (1997) and the Arizona Diamondbacks (1998-2003).
