House Republicans are expected to introduce their tax overhaul bill on Wednesday and details are still being sorted out, but Trump’s campaign promises included eliminating the estate tax. The tax only hit 2 out of 1,000 estates last year, but sports team owners are all candidates to face the tax and no league has more at risk than the NFL. “Eliminating the estate tax would be huge for sports team owners,” says Charles Capetanakis, an estates litigator at Davidoff Hutcher & Citron LLP. The estate tax is not the only way team owners might save a fortune under a new tax plan. NFL owners almost unanimously refuted Trump's attacks on the league in September, but they will likely all be in his corner when it comes to a new tax plan.
