ASSOCIATED PRESSAs hundreds of carbon tax advocates headed to Capitol Hill this week to lobby members of Congress and their staff, a coalition of conservative and free market organizations from coast to coast sent a letter to federal lawmakers urging them to oppose any carbon tax proposal. As with a carbon tax, cap and trade schemes like the one in effect in California and pending in Oregon drive up utility bills, gas prices, and other energy costs. New polling shows that Trudeau’s support for a carbon tax could contribute to his defeat in this fall’s Canadian elections. Meanwhile in Vermont, another state where Democrats control both chambers of the legislature and have introduced a carbon tax, lawmakers recently adjourned for the year without approving a carbon tax. Regardless of that outcome, don’t expect it to dampen the push for a national carbon tax or put an end to reports that such heavy handed tax and regulatory proposals are gaining “momentum”.
