SUSPECTED MILITANTS on Saturday ambushed an Assam Rifles convoy in Longding district of eastern Arunachal Pradesh, killing one jawan and injuring eight others. The condition of six of the injured was stated to be critical. Watch what else is making news:A massive combing operation was launched in the areas of Longding and Tirap districts bordering Myanmar soon after the ambush, official sources said. The attack was carried out exactly two weeks after a combined group of ULFA(I), NSCN(K) and UNLF militants carried out a major ambush on a convoy of the Kumaon Regiment near Pengeri, close to the historic oil town of Digboi in Tinsukia district, which shares inter-state boundary with Arunachal Pradesh. The NSCN(K), ULFA(I), UNLF and NDFB(S), which have their hideouts across the border in Myanmar, use Longding and Tirap districts of Arunachal Pradesh as a corridor.
