A day before demonetisation completes a year since it was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a televised address on November 8 last year, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said that note ban pushed for greater tax compliance and greater digitalisation. Asked about the critics' attack on the government over demonetisation bringing the GDP down, Jaitley said that every structural reform will have some consequences and in the long run it will help the economy. "If a major structural reform can cost you a setback for a quarter or two, is it too big a price to pay," Jaitley asked, adding that all his predecessors can boast of is "policy paralysis". On how much black money has been discovered so far, the finance minister said it is a "continuous process".
