The Otago Regional Council says historic use of the land is not to blame for arsenic contamination in a Central Otago kindergarten's drinking water supply. Unsafe levels of arsenic were detected in Hawea Kindergarten's water and parents were being urged to send children with bottled water. "Longer term solutions are currently being investigated, and the bottled water is a short-term measure. More than half the generally accepted maximum value of arsenic was found in the childcare facility's water supply, Dunedin Water Testing Laboratory results found.
