Wenger will take his strongest squad to Sweden to face Ostersund and having originally viewed the competition as a “high risk” strategy it may now be the most realistic passport back into the Champions League. Arsenal boss Wenger’s position is coming under increasing scrutiny and knows another season out of the Champions League would be very damaging for the club’s long term prospects. But Wenger himself knows that they finish well off the pace and go into a second year without Champions League football then it could give the club a serious decision to make. It is a strong line-up this year with Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Napoli and AC Milan but the winners go into the Champions League and getting back into Europe’s top competition would surely safeguard Wenger’s future.
