League leaders Arsenal seek an eighth successive top-flight home win on Thursday at the expense of the side they are hoping to depose as champions, Liverpool. It has been well documented that Arsenal failed to win the league title in any of the seven most recent seasons when they were top at Christmas. However, their lead since 25 December has grown from two points to six, with history now far more in their favour. In the Premier League era, there have been nine previous instances of a team leading by six points or more after the top two have played 20 matches. Newcastle and Liverpool both lost seven-point leads after 20 matches, in 1995-96 and 2018-19 respectively.
