Arsenal boss Emery is looking to sign a defender this transfer window after seeing the north London giants fall short in their efforts to secure a top four finish. Current defenders at the Emirates are simply not up to scratch, with Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Laurent Koscielny and Rob Holding all leaving much to be desired. Emery knows Arsenal need to be better defensively if they are to challenge the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title next season. And now, reports in Italy have suggested the Gunners are prepared to activate Manolas’ release clause.
