Aouar was one of Arsenal’s key transfer targets in the summer of 2020, with the France international seemingly close to a move to north London before the transfer window closed. However, the Gunners ended up signing Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid and not pursuing their interest in the 22-year-old, despite being very keen on his talents. Aouar has continued to impress this season, making 14 Ligue 1 appearances and scoring three goals so far this campaign, with Lyon sitting top of the table, three points clear of Paris Saint-Germain. Sky Sports report that Aouar is keen to leave Lyon in the summer and join a bigger club in a more prominent league, but Arsenal may look elsewhere before that. The Gunners have been linked with the likes of Norwich’s Emiliano Buendia, Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt and Barcelona’s Riqui Puig.
