And, now, Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport say the Gunners lead the race to sign Smalling from Manchester United. The defender has impressed on loan at Roma this season and is enjoying life a the Stadio Olympico. However, the coronavirus crisis has reportedly prompted Smalling into wanting to return to his home country for ‘personal motives’. And that means Arsenal are now at the front of the queue when it comes to signing the centre-back, who isn’t in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.
