The Executive Council has empowered the Secretary for Food and Health Sophia Chan Siu-chee to extend the quarantine period for arrivals in Hong Kong to a maximum of 28 days when necessary, according to reports. Those who arrived in the city from the UK will also have their hotel quarantine extended to 21 days, pending announcement. The government earlier announced that those who have visited the UK for two hours or more over the past 14 days from December 22 will be banned from entering the city, including Hong Kong residents. Those who already arrived in Hong Kong will have an extra 7-day home quarantine after their 14-day hotel quarantine.
