In a statement, Lt. Gen. Macairog Alberto, PA commander, said that as contingency force, the team would provide operational flexibility and would be the decisive force in times of crisis or armed conflict situations. “The activation of 1st Brigade Combat Team would definitely improve the capability of the Phi­lippine Army to respond to any situation because of its distinct characteristics as an independent, rapid deployment and combined arms force,” he said. Meanwhile, the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) Mechanized Infantry Division (MID) said it would continue to modernize and upgrade its logistics by procuring additional weapons and war vehicles. Duterte added that the number of mechanized vehicles of the MID would be doubled in about two years.
