Three months after the Union Home Ministry told people seeking licences for prohibited and non-prohibited bore arms to apply afresh, Delhi government sources claimed that as many as 400 applications could be pending before authorities. Explaining why hundreds of applications are pending, government sources said that while the Arms Rules, 2016, have already been notified, certain procedures need to be streamlined before applications for arms licences are processed. They added that applicants seeking arms licences also have to fill a new form under the latest Arms Rules, which may be time-consuming and could lead to delays. The government of India notified the Arms Rules, 2016 on July 15.
