The nation fell silent at 11am to mark 100 years since hostilities came to a close in the First World War, with memorial services held on Whitehall in London and in villages, towns and cities across Britain, including at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, George Square in Glasgow, the National War Memorial in Cardiff, the Cenotaph in Belfast and the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
