Police presence at future citizenship ceremonies is likely to continue or until "the department notifies council of otherwise". Armed police officers on foot and in cars guarded Queenstown’s Memorial Centre during the citizenship ceremony. The Dunedin City Council has decided to use security staff - who are not armed - at its citizenship ceremonies. Last November, 82 people became New Zealand citizens.
