A major police operation is underway near Whenuapai Airbase after a threat was made on Wednesday night. Armed officers are responding to the incident, while roads surrounding the Royal New Zealand Air Force base have been blocked off. In a statement, a police spokeswoman said the incident involved a threat. "Emergency services are responding to an incident at Whenuapai Air Force Base where a male has made threats," she said. "As a precaution, roads leading to the area have been cordoned off, including the Whenuapai motorway off-ramps."
