Ariful, who has been in an Olympic solidarity scholarship program in Rouen in France since September last year, clocked 1:07.74 seconds to complete his race. His previous timing was 1:05.7 seconds during the national competition in March this year. Earlier, the 20-year old swimmer from Kishoreganj clocked 1:07.51 seconds during the Commonwealth Games last year. Bangladesh’s other swimmer Jewel Ahmed will take to the pool Monday in the 100m backstroke event, while London-based Bangladeshi expatriate swimmer Junayna Ahmed will begin her campaign in the 200m butterfly event Wednesday.
