Currently, Covid-19 death rates are highest in the United States, Brazil and Russia, and now the focus of news headlines has shifted to the black lives matters movement. This leads me to marvel at what is unfolding within the United States, a place that I called home for five years. Growing up in Aotearoa New Zealand it is hard for me to envision what it would have been like under the rule of an ancient empire. While the US empire may seem smaller than the Roman and British ones, the demand for power is similar. Given that biblical history clearly shows that as one empire declines, another rises, how then are we to prevent domination by another oppressive regime?
