Diet drinks are saturating the market, but there's no evidence they're any better than sugar-sweetened fizz, a nutritionist says. In recent years, soft drink companies have been increasing the number of low calorie soft drinks as customers turn against sugary soft drinks because of health fears over dental decay and obesity. Coca-Cola has hit the diet-soda market hard, currently selling four soft drinks without sugar - Coke Zero, Coca-Cola No Sugar, Diet Coke and Stevia No Sugar. The stevia cola is sweetened by the plant extract, stevia, the other three use artificial sweeteners aspartame (951) and acesulfame potassium (950). Nutritionist Jennifer Bowden said there was a lot of conflicting research into low calorie artificial sweeteners.
