But chatbots have been restricted in their abilities so far, as the underlying AI and ML technologies have shown limited advancements in their applications. Interactive voice response (IVRs) and chatbots are similar in many ways. Chatbots do have a slight edge over IVRs as they are driven by complex algorithms and natural processing ( NLP ).For example, chatbots can understand keywords in a sentence instead of following a sequential pattern as in case of IVRs. Due to their inherent advanced technology, personalization of VAs is easier and requires less effort as compared to chatbots. It remains to be seen how chatbots and voice assistants will compete in the future.
