A fire broke out in vape shop inside the Victorian building on Union Street around 3.45pm on Sunday with the blaze tearing through the building despite firefighters efforts to extinguish it. "Unless the Scottish Government stands in and pays for a new building I cannot see how the Union Corner building can be replaced," he said. Glasgow Labour MSP Paul Sweeney wants the Union Corner building to be restored faithfully as it was after another Victoria building, the Ca d’Oro Building on the opposite side of Union Street, was devastated by fire in 1987. "I would estimate a new building on Union Corner would cost between £20m and £25m," he said. Route director Ross Moran said: "We are grateful to Scottish Fire and Rescue teams who have been working tirelessly to contain the fire on the Union Corner site.
