The federation investigated working conditions on the farm after some of the workers began voicing their concerns with the non-profit Migrant Worker’s Dignity Association. Though the workers are not members of BC Federation of Labour, the organization has a history of advocating for farm workers over health and safety issues. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOWEarlier this week, the Workers Compensation Board fined the Aquilinis’ $53,000 for using an unsafe vehicle to transport farm workers on the same farm. “The decision shows that the Aquilinis engaged in wage theft,” said Laird Cronk, president of BC Federation of Labour, in a statement. The BC Federation of Labour also lodged a complaint of alleged abuse, unsanitary living conditions, and threats against the workers.
