Janine Crothers, Hāwera, won the apprentice butcher of the year category at the regional industry competition. A South Taranaki apprentice butcher has won a regional award in her first ever competition. Supplied Janine Crothers, Hāwera, has won the chance to compete for the title of butcher apprentice of the year. Help from her mentor in the lead up to the competition, butchery manager Eli Humphrey, also paid off. The winning young butcher receives a coveted trophy plus the choice of either an all-expenses paid butchery study tour or a $4000 cash prize.
