KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 11): The appointment of ex-Malakoff Corp Bhd managing director Datuk Wira Azhar Abdul Hamid as the new chairman of Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) on Friday (Sept 8) will bring in a fresh and positive perspective to the FGV Board of Directors and management, which is currently facing a perception crisis, according to suspended FGV group president and chief executive officer Datuk Zakaria Arshad. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Friday announced the appointment of Azhar, taking over from acting chairman Tan Sri Sulaiman Mahbob. However, FGV said in a separate statement that it has yet to receive notification in writing from its special shareholder, Minister of Finance (Inc), on the appointment. Until then, Sulaiman will stay as acting chairman, the plantation giant said. At 11.35am, FGV rose 4.27% or 7 sen to RM1.71, with 15.26 million shares traded.
