WASHINGTON: Apple filed a lawsuit against Qualcomm Inc in Beijing, alleging the chip supplier abused its clout in the chip industry and seeking 1bil yuan (RM643.3mil) in damages, Beijing's Intellectual Property Court said in a statement. In an e-mailed statement, Qualcomm said it had not yet seen the full complaints against it filed in the Chinese court. It asked a federal court in California for US$1bil (RM4.43bil) in promised rebates and accused Qualcomm of overcharging for chips. The company said previously that it would contest both the FTC and the Apple lawsuit filed in the United States. In February 2015, Qualcomm paid a US$975mil (RM4.3bil) fine in China following a 14-month probe, while the European Union in December 2015 accused it of abusing its market power to thwart rivals.
