Apple repair policies under scrutiny in NZ and Australia123rf Apple can't refuse a valid warranty claim just because a customer went to a third-party for a screen repair, Australian and New Zealand regulators are expected to argue. The Commerce Commission is investigating complaints that Apple may have made misled customers about their warranty rights. The watchdog revealed the investigation in the wake of an announcement by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) that it had filed proceedings against Apple in Australia's Federal Court. The ACCC said Apple had made "false, misleading, or deceptive representations about consumers' rights" under Australian consumer law. The Australian watchdog has alleged Apple told customers with faulty iPhones and iPads that they were not entitled to a free repair if their device had previously been repaired by companies that were not authorised by Apple.
