Apple became the first $1 trillion publicly traded company shortly before noon Thursday, briefly crossing the lofty mark in a closely watched ascent that made stock market history. The price gave the stock a market value of $1,001,678,000,000 — or $1.002 trillion rounded up. Based on that number, Apple needed a $207.05 price to reach $1 trillion in market value, Silverblatt said. In other words, the share price means people would pay a lot — $1 trillion — to buy the company. It pays dividends to tens of millions of investors who own Apple stock directly or indirectly, from pension funds to individuals.
